| Outdoors | Check frost resistance & sealing | Popular for patios/thresholds (grip options) |
Formats & sizes
Pick from classic square and brick tiles, decorative hexagons, or parquet-style herringbone planks. Typical sizes include 100×100, 150×150, 200×200, 75×300 (brick) and modular packs.
Where terracotta tiles work best
- Kitchens & utilities: durable floors; style with warm grouts.
- Bathrooms & wet areas: add character; seal handmade tiles properly.
- Hallways & boot rooms: welcoming warmth; consider higher R-ratings.
- Outdoors & porches: select frost-resistant options and suitable grip.
Sealing, cleaning & care
- Before grouting: apply an appropriate pre-seal to handmade terracotta.
- After installation: finish with a penetrating or surface sealer as advised.
- Routine cleaning: pH-neutral cleaner; avoid bleach and harsh acids.
- Maintenance: reseal periodically in high-traffic zones.
Terracotta-effect porcelain does not require sealing. Always follow product-specific guidance.
Underfloor heating (UFH)
Most terracotta and porcelain terracotta-effect tiles are suitable for UFH. Use flexible adhesives/grouts and follow expansion joint guidance. Warm-up and cool-down gradually after installation.

Terracotta tiles — FAQs
Do terracotta tiles need sealing?
Handmade terracotta should be sealed before and after grouting, then maintained over time. Terracotta-effect porcelain does not require sealing.
Are terracotta tiles suitable for bathrooms?
Yes. Seal handmade terracotta correctly and use appropriate slip ratings for floors. Porcelain effect is a low-maintenance alternative.
Can I use terracotta outdoors?
Check frost resistance and grip (R-rating). Porcelain terracotta-effect often provides higher slip resistance for patios and thresholds.
Are terracotta tiles compatible with underfloor heating?
Yes. Follow adhesive and expansion guidance, and bring the system up to temperature gradually after curing.
